    More East Coast Photos

The pictures below were submitted by Neil Hardy. Neil is the VP Trails for the East Coast Trail Association. He met Ray and his support crew on Sat. August 25 as they were preparing to start the run early that morning.
"After checking out the barachois at Freshwater Bay for any breaches we also met them in Petty Harbour and introduced Ray to Peter Gard, the original instigator of the East Coast Trail development."

    Thoughts on East Coast Trail

The East Coast Trail is amazing! Some sections of the trail are quite tough - very rugged - beautiful coastline! We were met by some of the local people who had heard about the run and wanted to show their support for Spread The Net. I was very fortunate to have an awesome support crew who kept me fueled! It took 40+ hours to finish...now I'm heading off for the final leg - the West Coast Trail!

    Cheers, Ray!

    Akshayuk Pass Update #2

I received another call from Ray via satellite phone around 6:30am EST. Quick points:

    • The scenery is amazing, beautiful mountains!
    • Several river crossings in glacier cold water
    • Very thick fog! This made river crossings very difficult!

Ray is now about 2/3 done Akshayuk Pass.

    Akshayuk Pass Update #1

I received a call from Ray via satellite phone around 6:30pm EST. The start was delayed by about 3 hours due to bad weather. Ray and fellow runner Chuck are healthy but the terrain is extremely challenging:

    • Knee deep bogs
    • Glacier cold rivers (chest high)
    • Polar Bear Warning!

They met a park ranger who explained that the next 20km will be very challenging. Ray has run about 1/3 of Akshayuk Pass.

Video and Picture updates will be added soon.
